Cavalry FC beat York United 2-1 in each team’s first game of the 2021 Canadian Premier League season in Winnipeg Sunday.
Cavalry’s José Escalante marked his return to the club with goal and an assist against the Ontario club. The Honduran winger the perfect cross for Sergio Camargo’s headed opening goal in the 32nd minute. Escalante then capitalized on a defensive error in the 51st minute to grab a goal of his own.
Diyaeddine Abzi scored a from a free kick to get York back within one. But that’s as close as the recently re-branded team would get.
