Cavalry FC beat Pumas UNAM 2-1 in the first leg of their 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup first round series on in Victoria Thursday.

The Calgary club will take a one-goal advantage into the the series second leg in Mexico City next week thanks to two second half goals by Charlie Trafford and Tobias Warschewski. Canadian international Santiago López had earlier given the visitors the lead shortly before half time.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the match on broadcaster OneSoccer. “It was a mature performance. We were very good in our defensive foot print. But we also had moments when we were able to go at them. They executed the game plan very well.”
