HFX Wanderers opened the 2022 Canadian Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over York United in Ontario Thursday night.
Brazilian João Morelli scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute to earn the visitors the three points.
“I thought we played a very good first half,” said HFX Wanderers head coach Stephen Hart after the match. “In the second half, we kind of lost our way for 15 minutes in the game. And then we started to get ourselves back into the game.
“And of course they started chasing the game. The aerial bombardment, they were raining in balls on us. But I thought we handled it well and managed to hold out for the win.”
