FC Edmonton exit the 2020 Island Games without a win

FC Edmonton left the Canadian Premier League Island Games with a 2-1 loss to Pacific FC Saturday.

Decent performance by FC Edmonton

Despite the loss FC Edmonton played quite well. This forced Pacific FC to have a large portion of their possession in their half of the field and offensively looking for interception opportunities and creating offense off those turnovers.

FC Edmonton took their first lead at Island Games

The Eddies got their first lead off the tournament after Calvin Irving attempted to claim a cross and dropped it in front of Easton Ongaro who scored. That seemed to wake Pacific FC up as they started to show some intensity and try to attack into the FC Edmonton half.

Pacific FC’s equalizer came off some poor defending of a free kick that was deflected in front and was put on a plate for Josh Heard who banged it in and Pacific punched their ticket into the second round on a fantastic curling shot to beat Connor James.

Youth perform admirably

One of the bright spots was the overall performance of the young talent coming out of the academy. There were multiple opportunities for offense brought on by timely runs and shot attempts by Prince Amanda and Marcus Velado-Tsegaye and interceptions by Chance Carter. The youth should be the future of the club going forward.

  1. Because Jeff Paulus was the technical director for the academy and both David Chung and Jacob Bosch are former academy players. I feel it could happen.

even if they are available for selection in the 2020. they may get a shot given how poorly the team played this year.
