FC Edmonton earn draw against Valour FC

FC Edmonton earned a 1-1 draw against Winnipeg’s Valour FC on Sunday. 

FC Edmonton would have opportunities to score in the first half. Shamit Shome nearly scored in the 19th minute missing high. Then Mamadi Camara headed another scoring opportunity just wide in the 33rd minute. Valour FC’s Sean Rea would score to break the tie in the 3rd minute of added time putting Valour ahead. FC Edmonton forward Tobias Warschewski would respond shortly after in the 4th minute of added time with a bicycle kick that was barely kept out by Valour FC’s goalkeeper Rayane Yesli to end the half.

FC Edmonton would score early in the second half. Azrael Gonzalez would score in the 47th minute on a great assist by T-boy Fayia. Valour would get their share of scoring opportunities. Matthew Catavolo would put a cross into the box that Rendon would get a head to but missed wide in the 68th minute. A Daryl Fordyce off a corner put a header wide in the 80th minute.

Darlington Murasiranwa would make a crucial point-blank save a Moses Dyer in the 86th minute to keep the Eddies level. Valour and FC Edmonton would press for a goal in the final minutes. A few chances would occur for the Eddies. Wesley Timoteo took a shot from distance that would be easily handled by Yesli. FC Edmonton nearly win the game on a chance in the 96th minute but neither Warschewski or Nyal Higgins could direct it into the net as time ran out.

With the draw, Valour FC are eight points out of the fourth and final playoff position with eight games to go in their season. While FC Edmonton take a positive step forward playing well despite the low possession percentage. Carrying only 36% of the possession in the game.

The last place Eddies will look to hunt down York United and HFX Wanderers who are eleven and twelve points ahead of the Eddies respectively when they return to Clarke Stadium to face HFX Wanderers on Sunday August.28th at 4pm.
