Cavalry FC announced the signing of Canadian midfielder David Norman Jr. for the 2021 Canadian Premier League season on a multi-year deal Tuesday.

The 22-year-old joins from Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami CF, though he did not make any appearances for the Florida outfit. Prior to Miami he was with Vancouver Whitecaps, where he was sent on loan to Scottish Championship’s Queen of the South and CPL’s Pacific FC, where he made eight appearances.

“He has many great tools that suit the way we play and the culture we are creating, but it’s his intangible traits that tipped the scales for us,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “He is a 10/10 character with a fiercely driven mindset, from a good football family and had a very good football education thus far.  We feel there’s something we can add to his game that will make him even better.”

New Cavalry FC midfielder comes with Olympic hopes

Norman Jr. has international experience having represented Canada at the U23 level. And he’s been called up to the recent 50-player provisional Olympic qualifying roster, which will compete later in March for a place at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

But he says he’s looking forward to working with the players and coaches at his new club.

“After watching what Tommy and his staff have built in Calgary over the last few years, I am very grateful to have the opportunity to play for this club,” said Norman Jr. “Everything seems to be done at high standard from the product on the field to the culture talked about throughout the organization.

“The ambition to win competitions and be the best football club in Canada really drew me here and I hope to play a part in making that happen.”
