Cavalry FC beat Pacific FC in each team’s first game of the Canadian Premier League Island Games second round in P.E.I. Wednesday.
Goals by Nik Ledegerwood, Elijah Adekugbe and Mohamed Farsi secured the three points for Calgary’s club, while Pacific’s only tally arrived via a Dominick Zator own goal. The result lifts Cavalry FC atop the four-team table after Forge FC and HFX Wanderers drew 1-1 earlier in the day.
“I thought we created a ton of chances,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr., speaking to OneSoccer.ca after the match. “I’d have a few less grey hairs had we put them away in the first half.”
Cavalry FC play HFX Wanderers Saturday and Pacific FC will meet Forge FC. The top two teams at the end of the second round will advance to the CPL Island Games final.
