Calgary Foothills FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. believes there are positives to take from his club’s third season in the Premier Development League, despite an early playoff elimination at the hands of Portland Timbers U23.
“We gained one more point than we did last year,” Wheeldon said last week. “We finished level with Portland Timbers. Back to back, top of the table, playoffs. That has to be a positive.”
“Would I have liked to have gone on a playoff run? Absolutely. I felt we had a squad this year that could have challenged. From a bigger perspective, we’ve now shown that we’re a quality franchise.”
Wheeldon points to the 4-3 come-from-behind victory over TSS FC Rovers in the season opener and the late-season must win league victory over Timbers U23 as two of Foothills FC’s top moments of the season.
“I think this season has been littered with a lot of highlights.”
