Calgary Foothills FC suffered a heavy 4-0 loss at the hands of Sounders FC U23 at Hellard Field in Calgary Sunday afternoon – it was only their second loss of the season.
Contrary to the scoreline, the hosts weren’t entirely out played – there were extended periods in each half when Calgary heaped considerable pressure on the Sounders’ defence.

The difference lay in the two clubs’ ability to finish. The Sounders possessed it. Calgary Foothills FC, on this day, did not.
“They must have had their shooting boots on,” shrugged Calgary coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. of the visiting Sounders following the match. “They have a bit more experience and quality than we have.”
“In terms of possession and goal chances created, I think it was an even game. But when you make the net bulge, you win, and that’s something as a franchise that we have to learn.”

The Foothills boss recognized that his club likely won’t make the Premier Development League (PDL) playoffs this season, but says he’s going to take the opportunity now to bleed some of his less-experienced players in the remaining three games of the season.
“Expect to see youngsters,” he said. “I want to see these youngsters. They’re the future.”

Calgary Foothills FC next play Puget Sound away July 3. Their next home game, and final game of the season, is against Lane United at Hellard Field July 15.
