Vancouver FC progressed to the quarterfinals of the Canadian Championship after beating provincial rivals Pacific FC in the first round on penalties in Victoria, BC Tuesday night.

Vancouver won 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1.

Alejandro Díaz Liceága opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 34th minute. Aly Ndom equalized for Pacific in the 50th minute, eventually sending the match to penalties.

Vancouver FC’s keeper Callum Irving made two saves in the shootout to send help send his club through to meet Cavalry FC in the quarterfinals.
