Forge FC confirmed the re-signing of Tristan Borges on loan for the 2021 Canadian Premier League season Friday.

Borges was a key figure in Forge FC’s first season, helping the club win the first-ever CPL championship in 2019 with a Golden Boot performance. He also picked up the CPL Player of the Year award and the U21 Player of the Year award.

Where will Forge FC finish in the 2021 Canadian Premier League table?

The 22-year-old then left the Hamilton club on in a high-profile move to OH Leuven in Belgium in January 2020. But the Canadian midfielder has found playing time hard to come by, making only four league appearances in one year at the club.

Borges will be looking for playing time at Forge FC

“We’re very happy to welcome Tristan back to our club,” said Forge FC Director of Football Costa Smyrniotis. “The cooperation with OH Leuven has been very good here, with the common, important goal of furthering the competitive development of Tristan over this upcoming year.”

Borges will likely hope the move back to Canada, and the corresponding match minutes, will re-ignte a promising career. In January 2020 he made his international debut for Canada against Barbados in a friendly. But he didn’t even get named to the 50-man provisional Olympic roster a year later.
