Here are three talking points going into the York9 FC game:

1. FC Edmonton looking to play role of spoiler

In 2019 FC Edmonton failed to win a game against York9 FC recording two draws and two losses in 4 matches. Not only will an Eddies win be their first-ever league win over York, but it will also be the first defeat inflicted on the Ontario club at the Island Games. Jim Brennan’s club is the only undefeated club this season, winning once and drawing four times

2. Two matches to help determine who returns next season

These next few games will be key in determining who might be worth bringing back for next year. They will also give manager Jeff Paulus an opportunity to play the younger players on the squad who will be looking to prove to Paulus they are ready to challenge for starting positions next year.

3. A win would be important to FC Edmonton and Paulus

Despite elimination, the Eddies will be hungry to get their first win in 2020 if only for pride. Paulus has said he likes this team and believes it can be successful.

But to do so, they’ll need to capitalize on the opportunities they create. FC Edmonton had 11 attempts at goal in their last outing against Valour FC Saturday. But only two of those were on target.

Two positive results could help prove to the players and coaches themselves they are all still capable of competing, even if some fans have already lost faith.

FC Edmonton plays York 9 FC at 4pm EST/6pm MST on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
