York United beat Atlético Ottawa, reduce gap to third place

York United beat 10-man Atlético Ottawa 1-0 in Toronto Sunday to move within a point of the capital city club in the league standings.

York currently sit in fourth place in the CPL league table. But the north Toronto club is hoping to overtake Ottawa, and gain a better playoff draw, with two games remaining.

Shola Jimoh scored the game’s lone goal in the 69th minute. Ottawa’s task was made difficult when Liberman Torres was sent off after only 25 minutes.

“It felt really good when I scored, because I intercepted the ball and then it was a one-on-one, and I just put it on my right foot, on my weaker foot, and just shot it and it went in. I was really happy,” said Jimoh after the match.  “I just try to keep getting better every single day, and just keep putting in the work and put my head down.”
