The Vancouver Whitecaps picked up their first point of the 2023 Major League Soccer season in a rather lacklustre and uninspiring encounter with FC Dallas at BC Place Saturday night.
A frantic, end-to-end start saw the visitors open the scoring in the 5th minute, with defender Sebastien Ibeagha heading in a Nkosi Tafari cross.
The occasional breakaway from the Whitecaps failed to trouble Dallas keeper Maarten Paes, with their best chance coming from Ryan Gauld in the 25th minute.

The Whitecaps found the equalizer in the 34th minute thanks to a Paul Arriola own goal.The FC Dallas captain inadvertently toed the ball into his own net after a Javian Brown cross.
The second half saw few chances, with neither keeper being particularly troubled. Five minutes after the restart Ryan Gauld shot across the face of goal, with no one able to convert. Both squads became frustrated, resulting in some sloppy fouls and yellow cards.
The Vancouver Whitecaps had the final chance of the game when Sergio Cordova failed to connect with a teasing ball sent across the face of goal by Ranko Veselinovic.
