Valour FC beats Cavalry FC, stays in CPL playoff hunt

Valour FC beat Cavalry FC 4-2 at ATCO Field Saturday into fourth spot in the Canadian Premier League table.

William Akio scored twice  and Moses Dyer and Keven Alemán each scored once for the visitors, while Sergio Camargo and Joe Mason tallied for the hosts.

“You start having to go deep,” said Phillip Dos Santos, Valour FC head coach. “And that tells you a lot about the character and personality of the team. And what we want to be about.

“The character and the belief in the locker room has been incredible. (But) we can’t celebrate yet. We have to be very careful. And we need to realize there’s still another game to be played. But we put ourselves in a good spot.”

Cavalry FC has already secured a playoff spot, but the Cavs coach admitted he’d like to have seen more from his squad Saturday.

“I don’t think we deserved to lose, but we didn’t do enough to win,” said Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the game.
