Cavalry FC beat Alberta rivals FC Edmonton 3-1 at ATCO Field Sunday to stay top of the Canadian Premier League table and move four points clear of second place Pacific FC.

“I think it’s just one of those things that we enjoy these battles,” said Cavs head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. of the provincial rivalry after the game. “We’ve just go the edge on them, and keep going. ”

Aribim Pepple gave the Cavs the lead when he capitalized on a goal mouth scramble in 26th minute.  And the hosts doubled their advantage when Edmonton defender Nyal Higgins put the ball into his own net after a Jose Escalante attack in the 29th minute.

Gabriel Bitar pulled one back for the visitors just before halftime. But Pepple converted a penalty three minutes after the break to quell any FC Edmonton comeback.
