Forge FC announced the re-signing of captain Kyle Bekker for the upcoming Canadian Premier League season Tuesday.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Hamilton club in 2019 and has helped it win its three CPL championships in 2019, 2020 and 2022. He was named the CPL’s player of the year in 2020 and was runner-up in 2019 and 2022.
“Since day one, Kyle has been such an important leader of our club both on and off the field,” said Director of Football and Business Costa Smyrniotis. “His unwavering commitment to our club and growing the game in our community is so strong. We look forward to continued success together for years to come.”
Forge FC captain from day one
Bekker has made 117 appearances for Forge FC in all competitions, including 94 CPL matches, 15 Concacaf League matches, two Concacaf Champions League matches, and six Canadian Championship matches. He has scored 15 goals and tallied 14 assists in his four seasons with the club so far.
“At the end of the day it was always going to be Forge,” said Bekker, speaking to CanPL.ca this week. “We have a great relationship. It’s been an incredible four years, I’m happy here. This is my home.”
Before joining Forge FC, Bekker made 58 Major League Soccer regular season appearances, including with Toronto FC, FC Dallas and the Montreal Impact.
