Canada’s U23 men’s soccer team lost 2-0 to Mexico in the semifinals of the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying tournament Sunday. The result means Canada failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics soccer tournament later this year.
Mexico were gifted their first goal after a poor error by Canadian keeper James Pantemis – Uriel Antuna scoring in the 57th minute after Pantemis gave the ball away unnecessarily. Johan Vásquez scored the second in the 64th minute after a series of ricochets following a free kick.
