Vancouver Whitecaps beat Minnesota United 3-2 to move up to seventh in the Major League Soccer Western Conference table Saturday.

With both team mid-table in the Western conference, getting points out of this game was critical.

Neither team wasted time, with attacks at both ends. The deadlock was broken in the 17th minute, when Brian White received a through-ball from Andres Cubas just inside the Minnesota half, slotting through Dayne St. Clair’s legs for the opener.

At 33 minutes former Whitecap Michael Boxall, got his head on the ball before Yohei Takaoka could punch away to level the score.

Brian White got his second of the game in minute 52, with a scrappy touch as he collided with Dayne St. Clair; 2-1.

In minute 55 Brian White, having been injured scoring his second goal, was replaced by Simon Becher. It took Becher less than a minute and with his first touch of the game to put the home team 3-1 up.

Despite the scoreline, Minnesota were not out of it yet. In minute 65, Robin Lod played a ball through to Sang Bin Jeong, who slotted past Takaoka to make it 3-2.

Despite further pressure from Minnesota the score remained unchanged at the final whistle.
