Canada lost 1-0 to the United States in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship final in Monterrey, Mexico Monday.
Alex Morgan scored the lone goal of the game with a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
“What you have seen tonight is World Cup champions against Olympic champions,” said Bev Priestman, Canada head coach after the game. “It was a great game and we knew it was going to be tight. There are fine margins at this level. We use these moments to reflect on the game to push forward and these moments help you when it really matters in the World Cup.”
The Canadians will now face Jamaica in September to try to earn automatic qualification to the 2024 Olympics. Canada qualified for World Cup 2023 by reaching the Concacaf W Championship semifinals.
