Forge FC came from behind to beat Cavalry FC 2-1 in extra time to secure their fourth Canadian Premier League playoff championship in Hamilton Saturday.

Cavalry FC’s Ali Musse scored for the 2023 regular season champions in the 11th minute of extra time after the game ended goalless after 90 minutes.

But Forge FC turned the match on it’s head with a long range effort by Béni Badibanga in extra time first half stoppage time. And Tristan Borges secured the title for the hosts when he scored directly from a free kick with 9 minutes remaining.

“Five years, five finals, and four trophies,” said Forge‘s Tristan Borges after the game. “When it’s all said and done. It’s all about winning. I think we’ve proven every single year that we deserve what we get.”

“Our game plan was if we have any corners, especially big moments like that, was to put it on the goal and to see what happens.”

Close for Cavalry FC again

For Cavalry it was a case of what might have been after producing a performance perhaps worthy of a win.

“I don’t want to say in full control, but it felt pretty comfortable,” said Cavalry‘s Charlie Trafford after the match. “We didn’t give up very many chances.

“Then we go and finally get the goal that we wanted, and then it got a bit chaotic. Then they got two crazy goals that you don’t expect, and so it hurts.”
