Canada won the first edition of the Canadian Shield in front of a home crowd at BMO Field in Toronto Tuesday, despite falling 5–4 to Côte d’Ivoire in penalty shootout after a scoreless draw.
The Canadian Shield tournament is a set of friendly fixtures designed in part to help Canada prepare for this month’s Concacaf Gold Cup and next year’s World Cup.
Canada had earlier beaten Ukraine on Saturday. While Côte d’Ivoire had lost to New Zealand the same day.
