Forge FC were eliminated from the Concacaf League by Haitian side Arcahaie on penalties in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Arcahaie advances to the Concacaf semifinals and qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Forge FC took the lead thanks to a Daniel Krutzen penalty just before halftime. But Arcahaie equalized through Kervens Jolicoeur in the 59th minute after an error by Forge FC’s goalkeeper Triston Henry.

The game ended 1-1 and went straight to penalties which Arcahaie won 4-2. Daniel Krutzen and Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson failed to score for Forge FC.

“This is one that stings, it’s one that we were looking forward to as a game,” said Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis. “We were confident going in as a group in our game plan, and I thought we did a lot of good things today. We have no other choice; tomorrow, we’ll wake up and we’ll prepare to do it the next way that’s given to us.”

Forge FC can still qualify for the Concacaf Champions League, joining clubs from Major League Soccer and Mexico’s Liga. But Hamilton’s club will need to do so via a play-in round next week. The Canadian Premier League club will play the loser of the quarterfinal between Marathon (Honduras) and Saprissa (Costa Rica) for the Champions League berth.
