Forge FC booked a place in the Canadian Premier League Island Games final with a 1-0 victory over Cavalry FC Tuesday.
A first half goal by Molham Babouli was enough for the Hamilton club to earn its second straight appearance in the CPL championship final. Forge FC won the inaugural CPL championship in 2019.
“I think we had a very distinct tactical plan in this game and the guys went out and executed it,” said Forge FC coach Bobby Smyrniotis after the match. “It’s exactly what we had foreseen and it’s always great as a coach when you see that in the game.”
Tuesday’s loss eliminated Cavalry FC from the tournament. And the result ensured HFX Wanderers earned a place in the 2020 final with a match to spare.
“We didn’t create and they got the clean sheet,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. following the game. “Credit to Forge. They had one chance on target and they scored.”
Forge FC and HFX Wanderers FC will meet in the final Saturday.
