Nico Pasquotti and Dominique Malonga scored for Cavalry FC as the Calgary club defeated FC Edmonton 2-0 in a heated preseason match in Calgary Saturday, as the two clubs prepare for the inaugural Canadian Premier League season.
FC Edmonton midfielder Son Yongchan was shown a red card early in the second half, after receiving a second yellow.
But for each clubs’ managers, Saturday’s match was more about the performances than the final score. And both Tommy Wheeldon Jr., of Cavalry FC, and Jeff Paulus, of FC Edmonton, said they were happy with what they saw Saturday.
“For us it was great, honestly. You know, we’re behind in training and we were able to get some key players 65 minutes today. So, on that aspect it was fantastic.” – Jeff Paulus, FC Edmonton head coach
“It’s good to have a more competitive match during pre-season. I don’t think anybody’s going to read into it too much. You could tell guys were hungry to win. To get a clean sheet at the end of the day, I think, is big. It shows the work that we’ve been doing in the pre-season.” – Nik Ledgerwood, Cavalry FC midfielder
