Calgary Foothills WFC beat Regina’s Queen City United 2-1 in its United Women’s Soccer league home opener at Mount Royal University in Calgary Sunday afternoon. The Calgary club has a perfect early season record with two wins from two matches, and currently sits atop the UWS West Conference.
Foothills WFC took a lead into halftime thanks to a Tanya Boychuk penalty in the 23rd minute. The visitors equalized through Taylor Bubnick in the 54th minute.
But the hosts recovered and secured the three points with a Joelle Gosselin header, from an excellent Bow Jackson cross, in the 79th minute.
Calgary Foothills WFC’s next match is against California’s Santa Clarita Blue Friday, June 14 at Mount Royal University in Calgary. Queen City host LA Galaxy at University of Regina Friday, June 14.
