HFX Wanderers and Forge FC drew 1-1- in each team’s first game of the Canadian Premier League Island Games second round in P.E.I. Wednesday.
Goals by Akeem Garcia (HFX) and Paolo Sabak (Forge) meant the points were shared. Sabak scored a penalty after a hand ball call. Replays showed the call was controversial and possibly an error by the referee.
“One of the things we always discuss as a team is that things don’t come back,” said HFX coach Stephen Hart after the game. “The game’s over. The call was made whether you like it or not. They got a penalty and they scored it. You can’t go back and play the game. So all you have to do is get over it and look forward.”
HFX Wanderers next play Cavalry FC Saturday and Forge FC will meet Pacific FC. The top two teams at the end of the second round will advance to the CPL Island Games final.
