Halifax Tides FC announced the signing of former Canadian international goalkeeper Erin Mcleod as the Northern Super League club’s first-ever player Tuesday.

The 41-year-old Albertan made 119 appearances for the Canadian national team between 2002 and 2021, winning an Olympic bronze medal in 2012 and an Olympic gold medal as a member of the squad in 2021. She also played at three World Cups – 2007, 2011 and 2015.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Tides and return to a city that holds a special place in my heart,” said McLeod via a club statement Tuesday. “Halifax has a wonderful soccer community, and I can’t wait to contribute my experience to the team and support the growth of women’s soccer on the East Coast.”

Halifax Tides FC signing brings experience and leadership

McLeod’s club career has featured stints at the National Women’s Soccer League’s Houston Dash and Orlando Pride and most recently at Stjarnan in Iceland.

And her new club hopes Mcleod’s experience will translate to results on the pitch when the NSL kicks off in spring of 2025.

“Erin’s competitive spirit and professionalism will set the standard for our club culture,” said Tides coach Lewis Page. “Her time in Halifax and connection to the community will resonate with our fans, making her a perfect fit as we build our identity in the Northern Super League.”

The Northern Super League is Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league. The NSL is set to kick off in spring of 2025 and currently has six clubs named for its inaugural season.
