Forge FC advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Canadian Championship with a comfortable 3-0 win over Ligue1 Québec club FC Laval in Hamilton Tuesday.
Noah Jensen scored twice either side of half time and Woobens Pacius added a third from the penalty spot with half an hour left to ensure Hamilton’s Canadian Premier League club moved on.
Forge will now play the winner of HFX Wanderers and Atletico Ottawa in the Canadian Championship’s next round in May.
Two-goal Jensen leading the way for Forge FC
Forge head coach Bobby Smyrniotis had words of praise and encouragement for two-goal Jensen, who also scored against Cavalry FC in the club’s CPL season opener Saturday.
“He’s put up another excellent performance today,” said Smyrniotis of his midfielder. “Not only the goals. But just his work on the ball. And that’s the quality player that he is.
“It’s not only in these last two games, but it’s going back to last year. We know what his qualities are. It’s about him stepping on the field and doing what he’s been doing. Now he’s got to be consistent moving forward.”
Forge FC return to league play this weekend, hosting HFX Wanderers at Tim Hortons Field Saturday.
