Cavalry FC get first win of 2023 with victory over Atlético Ottawa – with photo gallery

Cavalry FC earned their first win of the 2023 Canadian Premier League season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Atlético Ottawa Sunday.

The hosts are still undefeated having drawn their previous five matches.

Canadian attacking midfielder Sergio Camargo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. And Dutch defender Daan Klomp slid in to score his first of the season in the 67th minute.

Cavalry FC fans play their part

Cavalry FC’s head coach had been expecting a tough match against an opponent his club has had difficulty with in the past.

“They’re disciplined, so we had to be as well.” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the game. “But what we have is our fans. We have a terrific pitch, and we knew our opportunities would come if we kept disciplined.”

And Player of the Match Camargo also had praise for he Cavalry fans.

“It was just a complete game that we knew we were able to do and it’s just so special to do it in front of this crowd,” said Camargo after the game.
