Cavalry FC returns to training for possible Canadian Premier League season

Cavalry FC will begin holding voluntary workouts at Spruce Meadows Monday, June 8 as it prepares for a shortened Canadian Premier League season, the club announced Monday.

Cavalry FC has received approval from provincial and municipal health authorities and the Canadian Premier League to return to training.

The Canadian Premier League paused the preseason for its second season in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But clubs are beginning to return to training in the hopes of still participating in a season in 2020.

2020 Canadian Premier League format rumours

The format of the 2020 Canadian Premier League season has yet to be announced. But, it is expected to be shortened greatly to perhaps a tournament format and could be hosted in a single venue to isolate players, staff members and officials.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Langford , BC, on Vancouver Island, have been identified as possible locations.

Cavalry FC following all proper protocols

Cavalry FC  says, as part of the CPL’s training protocol the club will adopt a phased approach to training that will begin with non-contact individual or small group workouts. This will allow the club to provide a secure, sanitary and controlled environment that ensures adherence to safety protocols and physical distancing measures for players and staff.

The priority of these protocols is the safety and the well-being of players, technical staff and employees, as well as their families, when they return to training said the club via a media statement Monday.

Cavalry FC training sessions will be closed to all media while the club works with evolving protocols of health and safety regulations put out by national and local government and health officials.
