Cavalry FC announced the re-signings of attacker midfielder Nico Pasquotti and defender Jonathan ‘Jay’ Wheeldon for the 2020 Canadian Premier League season.

Lethbridge-born Nico Pasquotti notched five goals and seven assists in all competitions in 2019. Before joining Cavalry FC, Pasquotti played with Calgary Foothills FC. Cavs manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. is pleased he’ll have 24-year-old’s tenacity at his disposal for the 2020 season.

“We are excited to have Nico back for another year,” said Wheeldon Jr. via a club statement Wednesday. “He brings with him such great game effect and pride in our colours. Nico is the type that like many of us, feel we have some unfinished business to tend to in 2020 and the work he is putting in in the off-season will show in his performances on the field.”

Jay Wheeldon was a key component at the heart of Cavalry FC’s defence in 2019.  He played over 1800 minutes for the Calgary club in all competitions last season and was undefeated in all 16 regular season matches he featured in. English-born Wheeldon spent his youth career with English academies Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle before eventually landing in Calgary with Calgary Foothills FC.

Cavs head coach Wheeldon Jr. will be looking forward to utilizing his 31-year-old brother’s stability in 2020.

“Jay is a valuable part of our squad and our team statistics emphasize that when he’s in the starting eleven,” said Wheeldon Jr. “He has such an incredible competitive edge, quality passing range and organizes the team brilliantly around him.”
