Cavalry FC’s Jordan Brown, Nathan Mavila and Elijah Adekugbe took to social media Wednesday morning to suggest an incidence of racial abuse took place during the end-of-match bust-up that followed Cavalry FC’s Canadian Championship 1-1 draw against Forge FC in Hamilton Tuesday.
It’s unconfirmed as to who specifically is being accused of the alleged abuse, but the Cavs players’ comments suggest it’s someone within Forge FC.
“When things get heated is when you truly know what someone thinks,” said left-back Mavila on Twitter. “Things got heated last night but for someone to be racially abused in this day and age under any circumstances should not be condoned period. Action needs to be taken.”

Cavalry FC’s Adekugbe also denounced the alleged incident.
“There’s no place in the game for racism, whatever the circumstances,” said midfielder Adekugbe on Twitter. “What happened in last night’s match was disappointing and should be dealt with to ensure the future of our game is something we can be proud of.”
“We’ll be reporting this as a team,” said forward Brown on an Instagram story. “Hopefully the right call gets made.”
While both clubs are members of the Canadian Premier League, it’s anticipated Canada Soccer, who operates the Canadian Championship, would be the governing body to investigate such an incident.
At the time of writing, there has been no official comment from either club, Canada Soccer or Canadian Premier League.
