Cavalry FC has released a roster of players to face FC Edmonton in Saturday’s prospects match, or ‘Al Classico’, at Spruce Meadows.
The Cavalry FC squad includes a number of players who won the Premier Development League championship with Foothills FC this summer. Goalkeeper Marco Carducci, striker Moses Danto and midfielders Nico Pasquotti and Elijah Adekugbe are among the Foothills FC alumni who’ll be lacing up their boots this weekend.
Cavalry FC’s coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. also coached Foothills FC’s championship winning side.
The squad also includes players who have recently played in Germany, Sweden, Greece and USA.
Both Cavalry FC and FC Edmonton will play in the new Canadian Premier League when it kicks off in 2019.
The term ‘Al Classico’ is a local take on La Liga’s El Clásico – the name given to any football match between fierce rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. ‘Al Classico’ was suggested as the soccer version of the Battle of Alberta and local supporters drove the initial concept.
