Cavalry FC announced the signing of English forward Jordan Brown Wednesday as the club continues to prepare for the start of the Canadian Premier League.
The 22-year-old striker joins Calgary’s new professional soccer team from SC Znojmo FK, of the Czech second division.
Brown began his professional career with the Premier League’s West Ham – making a single substitute appearance for the London club in a Europa League qualifying round match in 2015. He eventually joined Germany’s Hanover 96 II, Hanover 96’s reserve team, before signing with SC Znojmo. Prior to becoming a professional with West Ham, Brown spent eight years with the Arsenal youth academy.
The Englishman joins 11 other players who have signed for Cavalry FC to date, including Canadian international Nik Ledgerwood and Brazilian forward Oliver Minatel.
“I have really been lucky to be involved in some historic organizations, football teams and to play alongside some great players,” said Brown, in a club statement. “I’m delighted to join such an ambitious organization as well as a new league that’s striving to be great.”
Loading ...Cavarly FC’s head coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr is hoping his new striker will live up to the early promise he showed while in the youth set ups at Arsenal and West Ham and when representing England at youth level.
“Jordan is a really exciting player for our club and the Canadian Premier League,” said Wheeldon. “He’s had an excellent development path at some respected European clubs. As a young player in England’s U17 team, he was highly touted as one to watch for the future and we still believe that. He’s the type of centre forward we’ve been looking for, a different (sic) maker that’s young, pacey and clinical with his finishing.”
He is expected to arrive in Calgary in February to begin training pending the expected approval of appropriate visas/work permits.

The Canadian Premier League is a new professional soccer league set to kick off in April 2019. Calgary’s club is Cavalry FC and will play its home games at Spruce Meadows.
