The Canadian Premier League announced its end-of-season player and coach award nominations Tuesday. And Cavalry FC has three representatives on the shortlists.
Tommy Wheeldon Jr. is nominated for CPL Coach of the Year. The Liverpool-born 40-year-old led Calgary’s professional soccer club in its first-ever season, topping the CPL’s Spring and Fall seasons. His club also reached a Canadian Championship semifinal, notching a famous victory over Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps along the way.
Calgary-born Marco Carducci is up for CPL Goalkeeper of the Year. The 23-year-old made 29 appearances and earned 10 clean sheets in all competitions. Carducci’s successful season for Cavalry FC eventually led to a call-up to the Canadian men’s squad in August.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.French-born Congolese striker Dominique Malonga is one of three players nominated for CPL Player of the Year. The 30-year-old scored 11 goals in the CPL and two goals in the Canadian Championship.
The awards will be presented at the 2019 Canadian Premier League Awards ceremony in Toronto Nov. 26.
