Maël Henry’s 23rd minute goal proved to be the difference as Cavalry FC claimed a 1-0 road victory over Vancouver FC in Langley, BC Friday night.
While it’s only Cavalry’s fourth win of the 2024 Canadian Premier League season, Calgary’s club climbed the table into fourth position thanks to the tight victory.
“Right now, we’re almost playing playoff football, where it’s going to be tight,” said Cavalry FC coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the game. “Everything is going to be tight, but these guys know how to suffer.”
Cavalry FC coach praises match-winner
Cavalry FC has struggled to score this season, along with struggling for wins. But Cavs’ head coach praised his match winning goalscorer Friday night.
“I think in this league, when things are so tight, it’s the magicians that can get you that bit of magic you need,” said Wheeldon Jr. of Henry. “He did that and he almost scored a goal on the breakaway and he almost scored on his shot from the edge of the box. He can score in different ways.”
