Atlético Ottawa announced the return of Spanish midfielder Victor ‘Viti’ Martinez for the 2021 Canadian Premier League season.
Martinez made six out of seven starts at the 2020 Canadian Premier League Island Games last summer, scoring one goal.
After the CPL season, 23-year-old was loaded out to Spanish Segunda División B club Deportivo Alavés B, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal.
“I can’t wait to go back to Ottawa and start the competition, I want to be again in Canada and meet my new teammates,” said Martinez via a club statement Tuesday. “This year we already have the experience from the last one and I have no doubt we will have a good season.”
Ottawa’s coach is pleased with the re-signing and he believes Martinez brings leadership to the club.
“Viti is called to be one of the team leaders based on his quality on and off the pitch,” said Atlético Ottawa head coach Mista. “He is an experienced player and still has room to grow and improve. We are excited to have him returning for the 2021 season.”
Martinez joins Bernardinho, Tevin Shaw and Vashon Neufville as the club’s fourth International signing.
