Canada beat Mexico 2-1 in World Cup 2022 Qatar qualifying at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton Tuesday.
Forward Cyle Larin scored both goals for the home side as Canada moved into first place atop the Concacaf World Cup qualifying table.
Hector Herrera pulled a goal back late on for the visitors. But Canada held on to record a famous victory in front of over 44,000 fans on a night when temperatures dipped near -15 C with wind chill.
“The fans came out for us today and supported us in the cold. We’ve all grown up in this weather, so we’re used to it,” said match winner Larin after the match.
Next Canada plays Honduras away January 27 before returning home to face USA January 30. The venue for the home game is yet to be announced.
