Calgary Foothills FC won their home opener of the new Premier Development League season against Portland Timbers U23 4-0 Friday night.
Graham Fisher scored twice and Dominic Russo and Elija Adekugbe each scored one, as Foothills FC earned their second victory of the summer. All the goals came in the first half.

Foothills FC’s head coach Tommy Wheeldon praised his entire squad following the game, but was quick to single out striker Dominic Russo’s bull-in-a-china-shop performance.
“I think he led the line very, very well,” said a beaming Wheeldon. “He bullied people, he caused problems. His goal was a matter of causing people chaos.”
“We’ve scored a couple of fantastic goals…highlight reel goals, but it’s the hard work we’ve put in,” noted Wheeldon. “It’s a culmination of a lot of hard work we’ve been doing behind the scenes.”

Calgary Foothills FC won’t have much time to rest on this win though. They face Portland Timbers FC U23 again this Sunday afternoon. And Wheeldon is planning on having his player prepared.
“When you’ve injured an animal, and they’re a big animal because they’re associated with the MLS, we expect they’ll come out on firing on all cylinders,” he said. “They’re going to be preparing tomorrow and we’re going to do the same.”
