Calgary Foothills FC drew 1-1 with visiting Portland Timbers U23 on a damp night at Hellard Field in Calgary Tuesday.
A Calgary win would have leap-frogged them over the visiting side into second place in the Premier Development League Northwest Division standings. But the hard fought stalemate keeps them in touch – two points adrift the Timbers.

Having seen his side earn the lead on a first-half Elijah Adekugbe strike, Calgary’s head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. watched his side give up a goal midway through the second-half.
Loading ...“We just need that second goal to put it to bed,” said Wheeldon Jr. following the final whistle. “That’s where we’ve got to polish.”

But Wheeldon Jr. has seen positives in Foothills FC’s debut season and believes it’s now a matter of raising the squad’s confidence.
“We’re just showing that we’re in the mix,” he said. “We can compete. Got to give the lads a bit of belief. We are good. They now need to buy into it as well.”
Calgary Foothills FC head out on the road again to play Lane United and Portland Timbers U23 this Friday and Sunday before returning home to play Kitsap Pumas June 18.
