Canada’s national soccer governing body also said both League1 Ontario and PLSQ 2020 Canadian Championship entrants will be moved to the 2021 Canadian Championship.

But Canada Soccer did not share any news on a proposed start date or any further major format changes. The Canadian Championship, or Voyageurs Cup, has followed a two-legged knockout tournament format since 2011.

Major League Soccer is planning to begin play after its COVID-19 pause July 8. The Canadian Premier League clubs have returned to training, but there is no date set for when Canada’s league will begin play.

Montreal Impact are the current holders of the Canadian Championship after beating Toronto FC in the final last season.

The winner of the 2020 Canadian Championship will gain Canada’s only berth in the Concacaf Champions League
