Calgary Foothills FC secured the USL League Two Northwest Division with a 3-0 win over Victoria Highlanders FC in Calgary Sunday afternoon. This is Foothills FC’s third division title in four years.
The result rarely looked in doubt as Arabim Pepple (’20), Tofa Fakunle (’53) and Willy Akio (’64) scored for the hosts.
“(I’m) delighted for the boys and also the staff,” said Foothills FC head coach Leon Hapgood following the game. “We’ve reached our objective number one, to win the league. We’ve done it.”

Hapgood had special praise for his attackers, who who played Sunday’s game in front of a crowd that featured some members of Cavalry FC, including head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr., and the Foot Soldiers Supporters Group.
“It’s lovely to have my front four together,” he said. “They’re so lethal and dynamic and scoring the goals and sharing the goals. We just look great going forward right now.”

Foothills FC now go to California to compete in the USL League Two Western Conference championship, which will feature three other teams from the conference, including hosts FC Golden State Force. And Hapgood sees reason for he and his squad to feel confident when they head south.
“Momentum’s good,” he said. “We have four wins in row. Hopefully we can carry that into the conference (championship).”
