Cavalry FC announced the signing of English full-back Nathan Mavila Wednesday, as the Calgary club continues to build its squad for the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League (CPL), Canada’s new professional soccer league.
The 23-year-old has spent time with Wycombe Wanderers academy and West Ham United’s U23 team. He has most recently played for Leyton Orient, in the English fifth tier, and Dulwich FC, in the English sixth tier.
Mavila, who is studying for his degree in Sport Science through the University of East London, is looking forward to joining Calgary’s new professional soccer team in the new league.
“For me it was more about trying something new, being outside of my comfort zone and seeing what could blossom from it,” said Nathan Mavila, via a club statement Wednesday.
Modern day left back
And Cavalry FC’s head coach believes the London-raised left back can find a home in his growing roster.
“Nathan is an exciting young talent with pedigree that has lightening pace and a terrific left foot,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “He fit the profile of the modern day left back we were looking for and another exciting young import who has his best years ahead of him”.
Mavila is expected to arrive in Calgary March 2019 to begin training pending the expected approval of appropriate visas/work permits and pending International Transfer Certificate (ITC) approval.
