Calgary Foothills FC held open try-outs April 1 and 2, and the club may have found some players to add to the roster for the upcoming PDL season, according to head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr.
“I think we had 45 players, and from there there’s three or four…they could come in and make a difference,” said Wheeldon following Sunday’s snow-covered session.
Foothills FC will kick-off its pre-season with a friendly match against a visiting University of Lethbridge side next weekend in Calgary. Wheeldon hopes to bleed some of his newest prospects in that match.
“I can have a look at some of our U18 players, some of our core guys still in Calgary and some of these new faces,” said Wheeldon. “We’ll put them out on the pitch and see how they do.”

Wheeldon also mentioned that efforts are being made to shore up Foothills FC’s defence.
“We’ve got some good pieces,” said Wheeldon of the under-construction backiline. “We’ve signed Noah Cunningham, who was the MVP at the CIS men’s final for U of A. He’ll be different class.”
