Canada beat South Korea 3-1 in their second FIFA Series match in Cuiaba, Brazil Tuesday.
Vanessa Gilles scored two second-half goals, helping the Canadian women win despite playing most of the game with only 10 players.
Canada had previously beaten Zambia 4-0 in their first FIFA Series match Saturday, April 11.
Viens scores a substitute double
Evelyne Viens gave Canada an early lead in the 23rd minute, assisted by Cloé Lacasse.
However, Jade Rose was sent off with a red card in the 27th minute for a foul on Son Hwayeon. The referee determined that the Canadian defender denied Korea of a goalscoring opportunity.
South Korea took immediate advantage as Kim Shinji equalized from the resulting free kick, placing a strike in the top corner of the goal.
Canada retook the lead in the 50th minute, when substitute Gilles scored a header from a Jessie Fleming free kick. Gilles doubled Canada’s lead with another header from a corner delivered by Janine Sonis in the 70th minute.
Canada will next play hosts Brazil on Saturday.
The FIFA Series is a biennial invitational football tournament organized by FIFA. It features international friendly matches between national teams from various confederations.
