Montreal Roses FC earned a 1-0 victory over AFC Toronto in each clubs’ first-ever match in the Northern Super League at BMO Field in Toronto Saturday, April 19.
Montreal’s Tanya Boychuk scored the game’s lone goal after only two minutes, when she latched onto an errant back pass by Toronto’s Nyota Katembo.
Saturday’s match was the NSL’s second match, following Vancouver Rise’s inaugural victory over Calgary Wild FC midweek. Over 14,000 supporters attended Toronto’s first home match.
“I really hope that as a league we’re going to keep showing what we showed today, what we showed in Vancouver,” said Montreal coach Robert Rositoiu after the game. “A good show, to convince more young girls that they can dream. It’s on.”
