Canadian Premier League club Forge FC beat Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC in the first leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal in Hamilton Wednesday.
Beni Badibanga and Kwasi Poku scored for Forge FC – Badibanga scoring an incredible goal with a shot from his own half.
But Prince Owusu scored what might be an important away goal for Toronto.
“A coach that I look up to in global football, Marcelo Bielsa, said it best this past week that we’re losing creativity in the game,” said Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis after the game. “It’s becoming about the result. We need players like Badibanga in the game. That’s what people want to come to watch at all levels of the game.
“We need to be creative, we need to play football. This is a sport for the people. The results, we come and go. This game needs entertaining football.”
The second leg is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Toronto.
