York United beat Vancouver FC 2-1 on their first visit to the expansion club’s home to move back into for second place in the Canadian Premier League.
The pace of the game was rapid from kick-off, with York opening the scoring when Jeremy Lapare sent a beautifully weighted ball through the middle for Oussama Alou to run onto, Callum Irving should have done better to intercept but failed to control, allow Alou to slot home into an empty net.
Just 80 seconds later, a similar situation at the other end, when Anthony White picked out Shaan Hundal form the half-way line, Roger Thompson’s glancing header only helped Shann Hundal to take it on the chest and fire past Nikolaos Giantsopoulos, leveling to score at 1-1.
Despite plenty of opportunities, neither team were able to secure a second goal, until Osaze De Rosario’s shot was defected over outreached glove of Callum Irving.
Final score 1-2, giving York United that second place they were chasing.
