Vancouver Whitecaps picked up their second victory of the Major League Soccer season with a narrow 1-0 win over visiting Portland Timbers Saturday.
With only one point separating the two teams going into the first Cascadia meeting of 2023, this had all the makings of tight game.
Timbers goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic had a busy game, keeping the scoreline even.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in minute 71, when Brian White latched on to a Julian Gressel ball sent across the face of goal.
